NORTHERN REPORT-June2009
Northern Report
Northern Rep Brian Seccareccia
With summer
approaching most of the northern officials have put their
whistles to rest and are looking forward to recharging their
batteries by golfing, fishing and spending quality time with
their families. Some officials will continue to develop
their skills by attending OABO's Summer Camps while others
will officiate in Summer Leagues.
Listed below are
some of the highlights for the Northern Boards.
Muskoka/Parry Sound
The Muskoka/Parry Sound Board
completed its season on the May 30th weekend with an OBA Club
Tournament at Olympia Sports Camp. In early April, they
held an in house FIBA rules seminar in conjunction with a
local OBA tournament. Dennis Herbert was the clinician
and evaluator for the tournament.
Next fall their
association will be using an internet based assigning system
that Ken Estabrooks will install during the summer.
Sault Ste. Marie
The Sault Board finished its season
by refereeing the Mens Over 40 Masters Tournament with teams
from Thunder Bay , Sudbury , North Bay and the Sault
participating.
They had their AGM and FIBA Clinic at the end of
April. Brian Seccareccia and Ross Court will return as
President and Treasurer, while Jeff Bussineau and Barb Tuomi
were elected Vice-President and Secretary respectively.
Our executive donated their time to officiate a game between
the Mens and Ladies High School Coaches and the Sault Police
Force to raise money for the Don Doucette Memorial Scholarship
Fund. Don was a police officer who was killed in the
line of duty.
The Sault will have five officials who will
attend OABO's Summer Camps:
Tom Turcotte, Adam
Carpenter, and Wyatt Poser will attend a BDP camp; Barb Tuomi
will attend the Ladies MDP camp; and Jeff Bussineau will
attend a JDP camp.
Congratulations to Jeff Bussineau who
was the recipient of CABO's Camp Scholarship .
Sudbury
As summer approaches Greater Sudbury is
wrapping up the recreational developmental leagues at
Laurentian University. Shawn Swords, the University
Men's coach devised this league to encourage more involvement
and skill development for high school players.
Recently
a new group of supporters have banded together to expand the
development of a new club here with the intent of building
both male and female teams at as many levels as they can.
Clinic dates have been set for August and September to begin
the implementation of the National Certification progam.
As well, these dates will be circulated to our neighbouring
boards in the event that they may want to attend.
The
end of May saw Charlie Ketter, Craymer Forth and Gary Miller
attend Camp Olympia .
Thunder Bay
In May, Brad
Holbrough and Markku Peuhkurinen travelled to Toronto to
represent their board at the President's Meeting. In the
spring Wally Peterson and Brad Holbrough worked with new
officials in a girls developmental league run by Lakehead
University . Two former LU Thunderwolves women have
shown an interest in becoming officials. This summer
Brad Holbrough will be attending OABO's MDP camp.
The Northern Boards look forward to seeing their fellow
colleagues at our AGM in Belleville in the Fall.span>

CENTRAL WEST REPORT -Nov 2008 report
Welcome to 2009. I hope all had an
enjoyable Holiday Season.
As the Central West Regional
Representative I have been appointed to serve as the
eyes and ears of the
Peel, Hamilton, Niagara, Guelph and Brant/Norfolk Boards. I encourage
all the local Presidents and Secretaries in the CW Region to
communicate any local Board happenings that can be shared with
the OABO Executive and its members in upcoming Whistle
editions. Submission dates for the Whistle are March 7th and
June 7th.
The OABO Executive has set the following
meeting dates, January 25th/sup>, May1st and September
24th. If you would like any items added to the
agenda for any of these meetings please do your best to
forward the necessary details to me at least a week prior to
the scheduled meeting dates. This will allow me to review your
items and leave enough time for any clarification and or
questions I may have.
I look forward to meeting all the local
Presidents at the Presidents Meeting in May. On Saturday May 2nd
at 8:30am until 9:30am I will be chairing a Regional meeting
in Toronto City Hall.
I will advise the Local Board Presidents of further details as
the date gets closer. In the mean time please mark your
calendars.
The basketball season is in full swing.
The Central West region will be kept very busy over the next
few months with OBA tournaments set to take place almost
weekly.
Good luck to all in 2009.
